KINETIK is inviting grant proposals for initiatives that assist under-represented groups—such as women and people with disabilities—access climate finance and participate in the economic opportunities of the green economy.
In this Q&A, KINETIK director John Brownlee explains more about our Supporting an Inclusive Climate Finance Ecosystem and Green Economic Growth in Indonesia Request for Proposal.
Q1: Why is KINETIK issuing this Request for Proposal (RFP)?
It’s widely-recognised that women, people with disabilities and regional communities often miss out on opportunities in climate finance and the green economy. This is due to limited access to finance, under-representation in decision making roles, a lack of inclusive policies, accessibility challenges and gender and social norms.
KINETIK’s activities in Indonesia aim to help address these barriers. For example, the KINETIK Sweef Entrepreneurs Program and the KINETIK NEX business incubation program have a focus on women and communities in Eastern Indonesia.
However, KINETIK still sees that there are gaps, especially in relation to disability inclusion.
This RFP is to help fill those gaps. We know that the best solutions usually come from people with a deep and direct connection to issues. We want to harness the experience and knowledge that we know is out there by inviting organisations to share bold, creative ideas for activities that improve inclusivity in climate finance and the green economy.

Q2: What kinds of projects are eligible?
KINETIK welcomes a wide range of proposals including:
• Research on disability-inclusive climate finance
• Identifying key advocates and opportunities for inclusive climate finance
• Creating tools for inclusive climate investment
• Technical support to strengthen inclusive investment strategies
• Dialogue that brings together investors, policymakers, and advocates
• Tackling barriers to inclusion in green economy sectors
Q3: What if I have a different proposal?
Great! We’ve deliberately tried to avoid being too prescriptive. We recognize that there’s a lot of good ideas out there that we haven’t thought about and that’s part of the whole reason for this RFP.
Q4: Is KINETIK only looking for large-scale projects?
No. The aim is to support both grassroots and larger organisations to test bold ideas – even if outcomes aren’t guaranteed KINETIK is open to working with applicants to refine promising concepts, even if the scale is small. There is a strong appetite for experimentation and innovation.
Q5: How many projects will be funded, and what is the budget?
Up to 10 projects will be supported, with individual grants ranging from AUD 25,000 to 200,000 (IDR 270,000,000 to IDR 2,140,000,000).
Q6: Are applicants required to already be working at the intersection of disability and the green economy?
No. We recognise that few organisations have deep experience across both gender equality disability and social inclusion and climate finance. Applicants with strong expertise in one domain – paired with a clear understanding of how it applies to the other – are encouraged to apply.

Q7: Are organisations of people with disabilities (OPDs) encouraged to apply?
Absolutely. KINETIK strongly encourages proposals from disability organisations, either independently or in partnership with other organisations. The initiative aligns with the principle of “nothing about us without us,” prioritising locally led and inclusive approaches.
Q8: Can international organisations apply?
Yes – but only in partnership with an Indonesian organisation, which must take the lead for contracting purposes. The goal is to ensure local leadership and relevance.

8. Are there any other important commitments or policies?
Yes. KINETIK commits to child protection, prevention of sexual abuse and harassment (PSEAH), bribery prevention, and equal-opportunity principles. We encourage applications from people with diverse backgrounds, including women and people with disabilities.
Q9: What’s the key takeaway for potential applicants?
If you have an idea – even an early-stage one – that could improve inclusivity in climate finance or the green economy, KINETIK wants to hear from you.
